The adventures of Padawan Luna Starre-Child
Chapter 1
Hello. My name is Luna Starre-Child. I am 13 years old and princess of the planet Chevaan. I am human in appearance, but as a result of living in the harsh jungles of Chevaan, I, like the rest of the people, have extreme hearing, excellent sight, and lightning-fast reactions. My parents say I am unique and special. My mother once met a Jedi Knight, and she says that I remind her of the Jedi in a way she cannot explain. But I have never met a Jedi, so I have no clue as to what she's talking about. So instead of worrying about it, I like to spend my days training to be a warrior in the jungles, accompanied only by my cat-like pet, Keb.
Chapter 2
"Come on, Keb. I have a suprise for you!" I called as I ran toward the main hangar. We may live in the jungles, but that doesn't mean we don't have space travel. Keb followed me, more like a dog than a cat. I pushed my way out of the dense underbrush and onto a clearing that was used as a landing pad. I skirted my way past one of the larger ships, and entered the bay. It took a seconds for my eyes to adjust from the blinding glare of the sun outside to the dark and moist hangar bay. But I knew what was in there. "This way!" I called to Keb, and led her to a small fighter. It was purple, adorned with a yellow-gold color on the wings. The wings were swept forward, and ended in a fighter-class blaster. Underneath, barely visible on the belly of the ship, were two holes that the proton torpedoes came out of. The cockpit was clear plastisteel, and you could see the top of the seat from the ground. Near the cockpit were the markings of the royal family. "Isn't she a beauty," I more stated than asked. "I built her," I stated to Keb. "Wanna go for a test drive?" I was allowed to fly most of the non-private ships in the bay, because my dad had been a general in the wars and had had years of experience flying and he had taught me all he knew. I picked up Keb and mounted the ladder to enter the ship. "Thanks!" I called to the man who rolled the ladder away from my ship, the Millennium Child, named so because I had been born on the first day of the new Millennium. Just then I heard sirens and emergency lights in the hangar bay started going off. "All pilots, report to your fighters" A voice announced over the loudspeakers"

"Well, I guess our test drive is going to have a purpose" I said to Keb. "Don't leave me behind" I said on the intercom. I heard a laugh, and knew it was because I NEVER wanted to get left behind.

Chapter 3

My ship glided through the air behind the other pilots. "What's going on?" I asked over my intercom.

"We're being attacked by an unknown enemy," The leader of my squadron, the Gold Sqad, replied.

"Uh oh," I would have said if I wasn't up in the air to stop them. But because I was, I shouted "Let's go kick some invader butt!" A loud "yehaw!" from someone confirmed that I wasn't the only one who felt that way. As we cleared the atmosphere, I saw a force of ships so vast that even my high spirits began to sink. I just stared, open mouthed, at the size of the foe, that I almost missed the warning that the small fighters were coming in. I started firing my blasters randomly, forgetting to aim.

"Hey kid! Watch were youre shooting! You nearly fried me" The voice brought me back to reality.

"Sorry!" I said, then switched the target lock on. I followed a fighter until my lock indicator turned green. *chchoow* Two bright green bolts blasted from my wingtips. *ka-POW* I had blown up my first ship! All around me I saw similar scenes. But the battle started to take a turn for the worst. More fighters poured out of the belly of the larger ships, outnumbering us about 1000 to 1. I blasted wildly, taking 3 or 4 more down. Then I saw something that will haunt my dreams forever.

Chapter 4

"NOOOOOOOoooooooooooo!" I screamed! I gazed down at the surface of the planet, looking at the smoldering remains of the city, of the palace, of the jungle outskirts, that I had grown up in. But all I could see was a smoldering depression where the familiar landscape should have been.

"Kid, are you OK?" A voice said over the intercom, "Kid? Kid? Does anyone see what's happening to Gold 11? Can anyone see Luna?"

The voices rang in the ship, but I did not want to hear them. I wanted to go home and wake up and pretend that it was all a horrible nightmare. But I knew I couldn't.

Go to Coruscant. A voice said. I had never heard it before, but yet, it was firmiliar.

"Coruscant? Keb, whats on Coruscant that I should go there for?"

The Jedi Temple. You have a rare gift: the ability to use the force. Most with this gift are taken there when they are still young. But you were found late, and your father forbid that I take you there. So I watched you, hoping to train you myself. He replied.

I set the coordanents for Coruscant into the navicomputer and was about to push the glide lever, when Keb called me back to the Millennium Child's main quarters, which was also the storage bay and just a place to stretch your legs.

For your first lesson, you will learn how to use the force to move objects. Open up your mind to the Force. Let it flow through you. Now concentrate on the lever. Use the force to push it and send this ship into hyperspace. Keb instructed. I sat down and opened myself up to the Force. As I did, I started to feel a strange tingling. Then, I started to feel the things around me. Any other time I would have been overjoyed. But now I concentrated on the lever. I thought about it gliding up, activating the hyperdrive. Sweat trickled down my face, even though the ship was suddenly cold. I reached out with my hand and made a pushing movement and . . .

Chapter 5

"Whoah!" I cried as I felt the fimiliar sensation of being launched into hyperspace. "Did I do that?" I asked Keb, even though I already knew the answer.

Yes, Keb replied. It will take us a while to get to Coruscant, so let us continue your training. We will start with a simple relaxation technique. The hours flew by, and by the end of our trip, I had learned how to make small objects float, although Keb insisted that size doesn't matter. I believed him, considering he was just under 2 feet tall, yet he was a Jedi Master.

"Keb, why don't you have a lightsaber?" I asked as we were coming out of hyperspace.

I never made one because I never needed it.

"Oh. I understand," I said, although I was clueless. "We're coming up on Coruscant," I said, changing the subject.

Head for pad #256. That's the closest we'll be able to get to the Jedi Temple, Keb instructed. I landed and we got out.

"Where is the Jedi Temple?" I asked as we entered a shuttlecab.

Just over there, Keb pointed. It was a massive structure, but then again, so is everything else on Coruscant. But it was different. It had a certian quality about it, something I could not place. At the top was a large windowed room, but I could not see inside. I wondered what was being concealed in this magnificent structure. Stop gawking, Keb said from outside the shuttlecab. Only then did I realize we had stopped.

"Sorry," I said, rather embarrassed, then tipped the driver and exited. Keb and I walked silently up the huge stairs, and I wondered what lied inside for me.

Chapter 6

"Wow!" I whispered, the understatement of all time. If you had thought the outside was something, wait until you saw the inside. Hundreds of species of aliens and humans mingled in what I supposed was the lobby. Some seemed to have a definate purpose, while others seemed to be just passing the time.

Come on, Keb said. You're going to see the Jedi Council ASAP. I followed Keb down a hallway, less crowded than the lobby. As we traveled, the crowds thinned out, and soon we were the only ones. It was only then that I realized that the hallway was a museum of sorts, with plastisteel cases fitted into the walls. In the cases were the lightsabers of deceased Jedi, as well as some stuff of importance. One of the cases caught my eye though. In it were hundreds of jewels which could be used in making lighsabers. One of the jems in particular stood out. It was a small, round, purple crystal, titled the Force Crystal. But only one half was there. I gasped, and cluthed at the jem strung on a piece of leather, hidden under my shirt. I pulled out the crystal half and held it up to the glass. Yes, it would exactly fit. You see, I had the other half of the Force Crystal.

"Keb . . ." I called in a shakey voice. Keb turned around and looked at me.

Yes, I know. That was why it is so urgent you see the Jedi Council. he explained. Now come. There is very little time.

Chapter 7

I sat outside the doors to the Jedi Council's chamber, where Keb was talking with the other Jedis about me.

She is very talented in the force. Her midi-chorians are over 18,000. The late King of Chevaan was not really her father. She has the other half of the Force Crystal. Keb said

"But the prophesy says that the one to bring balance to the force would be a boy," someone replied.

At least bring her in and test her, Keb requested.

"Very well. Test her we will," a strange voice answered.

Thank you, Master Yoda, Keb said, then came back out. Come. The Council will test you tommorrow. Until then you are free to do what you like. Our quarters are on the second floor.

I nodded, and decided to explore this city-planet for a while, then return to my room and practice.

Chapter 8

I traveled around Coruscant for a while, taking public transportation as often as possible. Then I saw it. It was HUGE! It was the Blaster H.Q. and I needed a blaster BAD.

"Hello! I am S-373" A salesdroid said "May I help you?"

"Um, yeah. I-" I started, but the droid cut me off.

"I know! You want the Diamond Blaster X3 with dual crosshair aiming, revolving rechargeable energy cells! Lightweight, yet intimidating!"

"Um, actually, I was looking for something wi-"

"No, Perhaps 'The Bolt' would interest you! Such distinct features like-"

"I just want a blaster!" I shouted before it could cut me off again.

"Oh. Have fun looking!" The salesdroid said, then shuffled off to attend to another customer.

"Droids," I grumbled, then went on my way.

Chapter 9

I headed back to the Temple, blaster in hand, and found my room. An uneventful night passed, and I awoke to a beautiful Couruscant sunrise. Actually, Keb woke me up to a beautiful Couruscant sunrise.

Wake up, Luna. You have an interview with the Jedi Council in an hour!

"So wake me in an hour," I replied, then stumbled out of bed. I am NOT a morning person. But an hour later, I was standing in front of the council fully concious and in one piece.

An alien of some sort was holding a pad in his hand, facing away from me. "Use the force. Tell me what is displayed on this pad," he (I think) said.

I opened myself to the force. As I did I felt the familiar tingling sensation Keb had introduced me to only days ago. Using the force was amazing. It was as if you had been limited to almost nothing all your life and then suddenly you could feel everything around you. It was so amazing. But I had to concentrate on the task at hand. I focused on the pad. At frst the images were blurry, but as I progressed, they became clearer.

"Um . . . a . . ship. A . . . fighter! From . . . Naboo!" I drew into the knowledge of the living force to identify the strange craft. The image changed.

"A . . . a . . speeder"

"A . . . Yes! A planet. Um . . . Hoth." The name was strange to me.

"Hmmm . . . Oh! Thats the Jedi temple." The images started to fly by faster.

"Thats easy. A humanoid."

"Um . . . well, Hold on! Im not ready" The image changed before I could identify it. Images kept flashing by, faster and faster, but I was getting better as my concentration in the Force grew. After a while, someone told me that I was finished with that test and it was time for another. To make a long story short, I floated things, identified people, showed them the various relaxation techniques Keb had taught me, and other exercises in the force. After a long time, they told me to get Keb.

"Keb. Keb? KEB! Where are you?" I called in the empty halls.

Right here. Keb replied, annoyed.

"Oh," I said, looking down. "I forget you're down there and not taller than me like everyone else."

Thats quite all right. I will go in now. Wait out here. Keb said, entering the chamber to discuss my fate.

So I did all I could do: I waited. I waited while the most powerful people in the galaxy discussed my fate for the next however many years of my life.

Chapter 10

"She is very gifted," someone started.

"But much fear she has," Yoda continued.

"And sadness," a strange voice seemed to garble out.

But she has the other half of the force crystal. She is a fast learner. She also has a strong will. She may not give in to her fear. Keb argued. I silently asked myself "Would I give in to my fear? Would I have the guts to stand strong even after what has happened to me?" I broke off, afraid of the answer.

"Would she? How can you tell these things. Besides, she is too old." Someone accussed.

I will train her. I know her.

"Which is exactly why we can't let you train her. You know her too well so you are more likely to make foolish mistakes."

"There is a young Jedi knight who has just finished the tests. Let him take her as his apprentice."

Mmmm. Very well. K'tal Jaru's apprentice she will be." Yoda decided. "If accepts her he does. Contact him we will. Dismissed you are."

Keb came out, looking tired yet hopeful, and announced what I already knew. Perhaps you would like to visit a holodome. Keb suggested.

"That would be nice," I said, much more enthusiastically than what I really felt, "Contact me when I am needed."

I will. Run along now. You have spent too much time in here. Once again I found myself following Keb along the wide, marble halls. As our footsteps echoed through the hall, I could only imagine the young Jedi who might soon be my master.

Chapter 11

I hesitated before I entered the holodome. The holodome was a large complex with a giant dome in the center. The main dome had sceduled hologames, with a minimal cost. Surrounding the main dome were six smaller domes, which could be rented for parties and such. I headed for the larger dome, hoping for a game of Altesian water football.

I paid, and entered. Lucky me, a new game of football was about to start. In Altesian water football, each player puts on shoes that have a negative polarity. The ball has a negative polarity too. You swim in about 1.3 meter water, pushing the ball towards your opponents goal with the shoes. The first team to win, wins. It was a very fun game, even though the rules were much more complicated than that. I suited up, and started to take my backpack to a locker, when sudenly I heard blaster fire. I looked up, just in time to see the roof start to collapse. Distracted by that, I didnt see the large man sneak up behind me before it was too late.

"No one move or this kid gets it." The intruder threatened. "You," he said, looking toward the person managing the check-in, "put it all in here." I was so scared I didnt even think of using my Jedi abilities. But I figeted. I was strong from all my years of intense training in the harsh jungles of Chevaan, but he was also very strong. Deciding that I was becoming a real nuscence, he aimed his blaster at me, and pulled the trigger.

Chapter 12

"I think she's awake. Go check," I heard from what I assumed was the cocpit.

"Whathever, ssssir," the answer sounded more like a hiss than a word. Afraid of what might be heading my way, I reached out with the force to see if I could identify what it was. I could. It was a snake-like being from the planet Corameii, a planet known for its scum pits and slime pools. Now that I knew my enemy, I looked to see what I had. My blaster was in the cockpit along with my pack and belt that had all my other weapons and utilities on it, such as ropes, small knives, food and water packs, etc. The only thing I had to defend myself were my claw-like nails and the force. I had barely learned anything about the force from Keb and I hadnt even been able to see if I had been accepted as a Jedi Apprentice.

"Sssso. Youre awake, ssssleeping beauthy. Abouth thime," He hissed. "Donth think abouth esssscaping becaussse ithsss impossssible on thisss ssship. Ok? Good. Come on. Youre going tho ssssee the capthain." I knew where my blaster was now, but getting it was the hard part. I could fight, but I wouldnt stand a chance against the tough guy who had knocked me out.

As the snake-like being, a Frab, led me up front, I opened myself to the force again. I figured I should set my blaster to stun before calling it, so I concentrated on the controlls, twisting them to the lowest setting. I couldn't feel any tention, so I figured they werent counting on me being a threat. They were wrong. As we entered the cockpit, I waited for my kidnappers to get close enough together for me to shoot them in one shot. I slowed behind the Frab, waiting for my moment. Now. I called the blaster and deprived them all of their conciousness for a while before they could react.

I moved the pilot out of his chair, grabbed the controlls, and took us out of the blue and white swirls of hyperspace into the inky blackness of realspace. Where were we? I scanned the closest planet and got a good answer. The planet was Mirkit and was inhabited, the atmosphere was breatheable, and the planet was heavily covered with trees but had several major spaceports.

"Unidentified freighter, please identify yourself and state your cargo," a voice crackled through the comm.

"This is the freighter . . ." I scanned the records quickly "Sunnyside. Cargo is three passengers." I hoped they would buy it.

"Acknowldedged, Sunnyside. Proceed to the main hanger in docking bay 7. Coordinates follow this transmission." I entered the said coordinates into the navacomputer, then put the ship on autopilot. After we landed, I opened the hatch and started out. But I was not the only one concious on the ship anymore.

Chapter 13

"Thanks, um . . ."

"K'tal Jaru."

"Yeah, thanks. Look, I've gotta catch the next transport to- DID YOU SAY YOUR NAME WAS K'TAL JARU!!! I'M LUNA STARRE-CHILD!!!"

"And that is supposed to mean anything?"

"Master Yoda was spossed to contact you and ask if you would be my teacher."

"Well, you can tell him no for me."

"But . . ."

"NO" now I knew I would never be a Jedi. Main page
