Hello. My name is Chelsea. My real name. But I have another name too. That name is Luna. And I have a story. It all starts with a field trip that happenned about a year ago...
"You aren't a chicken, are you, Chelsea?"
"No, A.J., but I really don't think this is a good idea."
"I heard ya, but nothings gonna happen." A.J. and Max led me off the trail. Maybe I should back up a little. My class was on a field trip to a nature reserve near our school. We had split up into teams of three to research plant life in the area. A.J. was on the wresling team, and was often annoying. He had a tendency to get into trouble by trying to show off and it was rumored that he wasn't afraid of anything. He was about two inches taller than me, had dark brown hair about ear length cut unevenly and blue eyes. Then there's Max. He's cool and alot nicer than A.J. and he usually had some common sense. He often dived in head first and was rather impatient sometimes, but he was lucky to have a friend like me to cool down the water for him. He was on the track team and good at it. He was one of the fastest runners in the tri-county area. He was my heigth, give or take half and inch, and had medium brown hair that stuck up and went down to right under his ears. Oh, yeah. I'm about 5'3" or so. Im in computer club and I love math and science. I have to admit that Im afraid of alot of things, but I will do alot if I think the cause is good enough. Im saving up for my own computer so I can write programs and make web pages and not having everyone bug me all the time about getting off so they can use the computer. But anyway, Im sure youre dying to hear what comes next. So anyway, we were heading off the trail. AJ had dared me to climb this one tree that had our ball stuck in it and get the ball. And I wasnt about to let him down. Besides, it was
a cool ball and it was my fault it was up there anyway. (I really need to work on my aim!)
"I'll need a boost. The first branch is almost 6 feet up." I said as we neared the tree. "Huh?" My foot was stuck in something. "Hey guys my foot's stu-Whoa!" Now I was in dirt to my knees. "Uh, I dont think that quicksand should be here." I said as the dirt reached my chest.
"Grab her hands!" Max told AJ as the dirt reached my neck.
"Huh? My feet-" I was cut off as the dirt reached my mouth. I inhaled quickly through my nose, then plunged into the dirt. Just keep holding your breath, Chelsea. I thought as I traveled deeper into the dirt. Then my head broke out and I fell to the dirt below. "It sure is dark," I commented. Then I remembered the pen light I had used to repair our computer was still in my pocket. "Looks like some sort of tunnel," I murmered, then looking up I yelled "Hey guys! Come on down. There's a tunnel or something under the dirt." About ten seconds later, AJ fell through the dirt followed by Max.
"Come on. Lets see whats down there." AJ decided and pointed towards where I think the path was, although my sense of direction was scrambled from being underground. We walked on for about five or ten minutes and we began to think that perhaps this tunnel didn't do anything or go anywhere, so we were about to turn around and go back when something ahead caught my eye.
"Look at those doors!" I had never heard Max so exited or frightened, but he had ample reason to be so. The doors were not huge, but they had wood and gold carvings of three striped cat-like animals that looked similar to tigers, but somehow I knew that they werent.
"Are you guys just gonna stare at those doors all day or are we going to go in?" AJ was his usual fearless self. He put his hand on the knob, but before he could turn it, the doors swung open into a large room, lit mainly by the silvery glow of computer screens and what could only be described as holograms. In the center of the room was three columns, one bright yellow, one red-orange, and one silver. On each column, a round crystal about the size of my thumbnail sat. "Ah, so you have finally come to release the powers of the guardian crystals," a voice said, causing me and Max to jump. "Do not be afraid of me," A hologram of an old man formed in the center of the room. "I am Abligam, keeper of the crystals. I am a computer, but I thought perhaps the apperance of my creator might be more comfortable to you. You are probably wondering about the crystals. They hold the powers of three guardians of the universe who died a long time ago. But I doubt you would like to hear that story."
"Actually, it sounds quite interesting," I said, because it really did spark my imagination.
"Very well. A long time ago, about three thousand of your Earth years, three guardians were sent to protect your planet from evil alien forces. The Guardians of Electricity, Fire, and Energy fought hard and long agains the invaders. In order to save your planet, they used all their power to destroy the invaders. But they knew they would not survive. They transferred their remaining power into these three crystals and sent them to the planet below, hoping that some day ones worthy of such a responsibilty would find them. I believe that day has come," It sounded as if the computer was actually sad at the loss of the Guardians and joyous at our arrival. "I cannot tell you to take the crystals or to leave them, that is your decision. All I can tell you is that many dangerous aliens have been looking for the crystals for a very long time. It will not be easy for you if you take the responsibilities of a Guardian, but I fear if someone does not take the crystals soon, your planet is doomed."
"I'm not going to let a bunch of creepy aliens destroy the people I know and love. You can count me in," I was surprised I had actually said it, but I meant it and would stick by it.
"Chelsea? You're the last one I would have expected to take on something like this, but if you're doing it, then I'm with you," I knew Max well enough to know he would stick to his commitment too.
"I'm not going to let you two have all the fun. You can count on me," AJ was trying to act like his normal fearless self, but for a minute, I felt that he really wanted to help all those people.
"Then it's unanimus. We're doing this," I told the Abligam determinedly.
"You must each choose a crystal then." I knew right away that the silver crystal was the one for me. AJ took the bright yellow one and Max took the red-orange one. That didnt surprise me at all, but I didnt think that anything could surprise me right about then.
"Place your hand on the crystal and let the transfer of power begin." I took the crystal in the palm of my hand, and I immediately felt a strange tingling sensation, and then the crystal was gone.
"Huh! My crystal dissolved or something," AJ said it before I could.
"Mine too."
"And mine."
"That is because the crystals did not only hold the Guardians power, they were the power," the computer replied, but I soon began feeling very distracted. I didnt know what it was, until I looked at one of the holograms. But when I looked at it, I was no longer looking at some foreign technology that was way beyond anything I could imagine, no, now I was looking at a holographic projection and KNOWING it. It was as if all of the sudden I had gotten a million ti
